Highly rated day tour featuring visits to Stonehenge, Avebury, and picturesque Cotswolds villages. Customers praised knowledgeable, entertaining guides (Andy, Bill, Kevin, Richard, Gerry, Sean) who shared historical insights and humor. Small groups (12-16) and comfortable vans enhanced experience. One reviewer noted lunch venue closures.

  • Best day tour we have done; fantastic tour guide made the day informative and entertaining.
  • My favorite tour in England. Each stop was like something from a storybook.
  • Small group is a much better experience - more personal with your driver/guide.

Scenic villages, amazing history and much more.

Sean our driver and tour guide had an incredible amount of knowledge about every where we visited. It was a fantastic day, especially the stones at Avebury where we could walk around and touch them. I would highly recommend this tour.

Getting to walk amongst the stones at Avebury is such a special part of the day. I'm glad Sean’s knowledge helped bring the history of all the places you visited to life. Best, Maya

The Best Tour!

Fantastic tour! Jason was cheerful and knowledgable and made the journey an absolute delight. He knows so much, not just about the town but about Great Britain, its history, its idioms ... The coach was comfortable and our family had an absolute blast. Thank you!

I am glad Jason kept the whole family entertained with plenty of British history and a few quirks along the way. Lovely to hear you all had such a brilliant day. Best, Maya

Castle Combe and Stonehenge

We booked with Mad Max and could not have been more pleased! Our tour guide, Bill, was outstanding and had a great sense of humor, and was so knowledgeable. He tied the tour in with British history. The coach/van was very comfortable. We would definitely recommend this tour and would book with Mad Max again, especially if it was with Bill!

Hi Julianne, sounds like Bill brought the history to life with plenty of humour along the way. We’d love to welcome you back on another tour next time you’re in the UK. Best, Maya

A Truly Memorable Cotswolds & Stonehenge Tour

Honestly one of the best day trips I’ve done. The Cotswolds were stunning, Stonehenge was surreal, and Bill from Mad Max Tours made it all super smooth and fun. Good mix of stories, chill time, and great spots. Didn’t feel rushed at all. Highly recommend.

Richard Turns a Tour into an Adventure

We spent the day with Mad Max Tours and our driver/guide Richard, and it was outstanding. He knew exactly how to time the day so we missed the worst of the Stonehenge crowds and packed in so much more — Bath, Castle Combe, Avebury, Lacock — with history, humor, and just the right amount of snark. Richard’s stories brought the places to life, from Roman marching routes to ghost tales at the Red Lion Inn. A full day that never felt rushed, and easily one of the best tours we’ve had anywhere. Highly recommend Mad Max, and if you’re lucky enough to get Richard, you’re in for a treat

Richard will just love this review! We know we are really lucky to have Richard with as part of the MadMax team, but it is honestly always so lovely to read a review like this. Many thanks for taking the time. All the best with the rest of your travels!

Mad Max is the GOAT!

When my husband and I decided to tour England’s West Counties, we used three different tour resources: Mad Max for Stonehenge, Avebury, and the Cotswold villages; the hop-on, hop-off bus for Bath, and a Blue Badge guide for towns in Wiltshire and Somerset. Mad Max was far and away the best tour experience. Andy, our driver and tour guide was extremely knowledgeable, relatable, and entertaining. He is also extraordinarily kind. My husband has mobility issues, and Andy made certain that his needs were accommodated. It should be noted that Andy also paid attention the needs of all his travelers.

The tour was filled with unexpected surprises: when we glimpsed a white (chalk) horse carved into the hillside, Andy pulled off the road for a better view—and we found ourselves next to a paddock of real horses, one of them white! (Andy kindly provided carrots for those who wanted to feed the horses.)

Early in the tour, Andy mentioned the importance of the Salisbury plain, and I mentioned Peter Gabriels’s song “Salisbury Hill.” He promised to come back to that, and indeed he did. Towards the end of the day, as we were winding down Salisbury Hill, he cranked up Peter Gabriel. It doesn’t get any better than that!

I cannot recommend Mad Max tours highly enough—it was the highlight of our trip to the region. If you travel with them, be sure to ask for Andy!

Wow, what a lovely review! Thanks so much for taking the time. We remind our guides to keep an eye on trip advisor reviews as people say such lovely things, but this one was extra special. Andy will be stoked to read it!
Sometimes its all about the little details that make something so special and memorable, so I'm glad this came across.
Hopefully you'll be able to join us again one day in the future!

Stellar Tour!

What an amazing day! We thoroughly enjoyed touring Stonehenge, Avebury, lunching in Lacock and walking around Castle Colme. Our guide, Jerry, was an absolute delight! He provided information on the history of all these beautiful areas and was funny! The group is a good size and the bus is clean! I recommend eating at the red lion if you have the time. This is a great tour to do from Bath and is worth every penny. You will not be sorry!

Thanks for your stella review! So glad to hear that Jerry added to the magic of the day – having a great guide makes all the difference. Glad to hear that the bus was comfortable and that you found it worth every penny- we hope you can join us again one day.

Great guide, stone hugging, beautiful countryside

Relaxing, informative trip thanks to our most excellent guide Jerry. After tons of walking we much appreciated being driven around so nicely through such scenic villages. Amazing they are being kept so close to their origins!! You can hug the standing stones at Avebury, and admire the ancient mysterious temple of Stonehenge from afar. Do not miss the exhibition center, it gives you an immersive idea of the soltstice days.

Stone hugging is a fun bonus of Avebury. I'm glad Gerry made the day relaxing and informative, while you enjoyed the beautiful countryside along the way. Thanks for joining us. Best, Maya

Great guide

Jason was our guide and probably one of the best and informative guides we’ve ever had through the years. There are four stops and we highly enjoyed the first three. We felt that the time at Stonehenge was much too long and I wish there was a way that it just had a tour with the first three stops - that would’ve been perfect. It was also a very warm day as England was having a hot, dry spell when we were there.

Jason will be happy to hear he ranks among the best guides you’ve had over the years. Stonehenge is a key part of this particular tour, so we allow plenty of time for guests to experience it, but we appreciate that everyone has their own favourite stops. Best, Maya

Beautiful Cotswolds and Magical Stone Circles with the BEST guide

Loved it! Shaun was our guide, and he was so informative. Such a fun tour, lovely sights, that exceeded my expectations. Comfortable bus, small group, plenty of time to see things, but of course I wanted to stay longer at each stop. We saw so much more than I expected. Highly recommended!

Lovely to hear the tour exceeded your expectations and that you managed to see so much in one day. Sean will be pleased to know his knowledge helped make the Cotswolds and stone circles even more memorable. Best, Maya

Definitely recommended!

If someone is visiting this part of England they definitely need to see Stonehenge, and this tour is a convenient way to do that, and is also nice by including the Avebury stone circle and a couple pretty Cotswold towns. That's a lot to include in one day (including quite a bit of driving), but it flowed very well, and there was ample time at Stonehenge itself. Our guide gave a very good presentation, though (being very history-oriented myself) I would have liked a little more detail about the history of Avebury and Stonehenge (but I realize that a lot is unknown about that history). I was glad that the company suggested we download the free audio tour for Stonehenge.

Be sure to leave a full day for sightseeing in Bath, but if you have time to do a full-day excursion outside the city, this is a really good one.

Hi Jason, great to hear the day flowed well and gave you plenty of time to enjoy Stonehenge alongside Avebury and the Cotswolds. I'm glad you made use of the audio guide at Stonehenge, it’s a great way to dig a little deeper into its fascinating history. Best, Maya
