Highly rated day tour featuring visits to Stonehenge, Avebury, and picturesque Cotswolds villages. Customers praised knowledgeable, entertaining guides (Andy, Bill, Kevin, Richard, Gerry, Sean) who shared historical insights and humor. Small groups (12-16) and comfortable vans enhanced experience. One reviewer noted lunch venue closures.

  • Best day tour we have done; fantastic tour guide made the day informative and entertaining.
  • My favorite tour in England. Each stop was like something from a storybook.
  • Small group is a much better experience - more personal with your driver/guide.

A Truly Memorable Cotswolds & Stonehenge Tour

Honestly one of the best day trips I’ve done. The Cotswolds were stunning, Stonehenge was surreal, and Bill from Mad Max Tours made it all super smooth and fun. Good mix of stories, chill time, and great spots. Didn’t feel rushed at all. Highly recommend.

Richard Turns a Tour into an Adventure

We spent the day with Mad Max Tours and our driver/guide Richard, and it was outstanding. He knew exactly how to time the day so we missed the worst of the Stonehenge crowds and packed in so much more — Bath, Castle Combe, Avebury, Lacock — with history, humor, and just the right amount of snark. Richard’s stories brought the places to life, from Roman marching routes to ghost tales at the Red Lion Inn. A full day that never felt rushed, and easily one of the best tours we’ve had anywhere. Highly recommend Mad Max, and if you’re lucky enough to get Richard, you’re in for a treat

Richard will just love this review! We know we are really lucky to have Richard with as part of the MadMax team, but it is honestly always so lovely to read a review like this. Many thanks for taking the time. All the best with the rest of your travels!

Mad Max is the GOAT!

When my husband and I decided to tour England’s West Counties, we used three different tour resources: Mad Max for Stonehenge, Avebury, and the Cotswold villages; the hop-on, hop-off bus for Bath, and a Blue Badge guide for towns in Wiltshire and Somerset. Mad Max was far and away the best tour experience. Andy, our driver and tour guide was extremely knowledgeable, relatable, and entertaining. He is also extraordinarily kind. My husband has mobility issues, and Andy made certain that his needs were accommodated. It should be noted that Andy also paid attention the needs of all his travelers.

The tour was filled with unexpected surprises: when we glimpsed a white (chalk) horse carved into the hillside, Andy pulled off the road for a better view—and we found ourselves next to a paddock of real horses, one of them white! (Andy kindly provided carrots for those who wanted to feed the horses.)

Early in the tour, Andy mentioned the importance of the Salisbury plain, and I mentioned Peter Gabriels’s song “Salisbury Hill.” He promised to come back to that, and indeed he did. Towards the end of the day, as we were winding down Salisbury Hill, he cranked up Peter Gabriel. It doesn’t get any better than that!

I cannot recommend Mad Max tours highly enough—it was the highlight of our trip to the region. If you travel with them, be sure to ask for Andy!

Wow, what a lovely review! Thanks so much for taking the time. We remind our guides to keep an eye on trip advisor reviews as people say such lovely things, but this one was extra special. Andy will be stoked to read it!
Sometimes its all about the little details that make something so special and memorable, so I'm glad this came across.
Hopefully you'll be able to join us again one day in the future!

Stellar Tour!

What an amazing day! We thoroughly enjoyed touring Stonehenge, Avebury, lunching in Lacock and walking around Castle Colme. Our guide, Jerry, was an absolute delight! He provided information on the history of all these beautiful areas and was funny! The group is a good size and the bus is clean! I recommend eating at the red lion if you have the time. This is a great tour to do from Bath and is worth every penny. You will not be sorry!

Thanks for your stella review! So glad to hear that Jerry added to the magic of the day – having a great guide makes all the difference. Glad to hear that the bus was comfortable and that you found it worth every penny- we hope you can join us again one day.

Go Gerry

Our guide Gerry was fantastic. He's native to the area and gave us a wealth of information regarding the area, culture and history. Who knew we'd find out the derivation of phrases such as being "piss poor" and "blind drunk". We certainly hope he recovers from England s loss in the world cup.

Hi Will, it sounds like Gerry kept everyone entertained as well as informed. We're glad you enjoyed the stories behind some of our more colourful British sayings. Best, Maya

Best Day Tour Ever

Probably one of the best day tours we have done; small group (16) and a fantastic tour guide (Andy). Great locations and terrific commentary both historical and current. It was relaxed and super friendly. Andy made the day informative and kept us entertained with his locally themed anecdotes and his wonderful sense of humor. Andy seemed like he was genuinely enjoying himself and he definitely won all of us over. All-in-all I would say it was a wonderful experience and a thoroughly enjoyable tour. I highly recommend this tour with MadMax.
Tony & Victoria

Great Tour - Just Book It

Bill showed us a great time! He was funny, thoughtful, and offered good tips for seeing more in the area. Our trip was during record breaking heat, and Bill rearranged the day so we could be strategic about shade and sun exposure. The air conditioning in the van was a life saver. I highly recommend this tour. I was surprised at how much we loved Avebury and joining the grazing sheep while we took in the stones and shade. You can plan a picnic but you can't plan the weather : )

Dear Rochelle,

Bill rearranging the day during that record heat is exactly the kind of thinking-on-his-feet we love to hear about, glad the aircon backed him up too. Avebury with the grazing sheep sounds like the perfect spot to shelter from the sun. Thanks for recommending us and hope to see you on one of our other tours.

Go with Mad Max, you won't regret it

Where to begin? This was my favorite tour in England, and I've been here many times in about 30 years. Our tour guide, Bill, was knowledgeable, funny, an amazing driver, kind, and just an all-around pleasure. Each stop on our way from Bath to Stonehenge, through the Cotswolds, was like something from a storybook, even in a heavy drizzle. There were so many unexpected and beautiful sites on the road and in each town, and Bill did a great job pointing them out. Stonehenge was awe-inspiring. 5,000+ years of history. There's no way we would have seen and experienced all these places on our own! Roads are very tricky and Bill made it look easy. Highly recommended!

Dear Hillary,

Favourite tour in 30 years of visiting England is quite the compliment, and Bill sounds like he earned every bit of it, navigating those tricky roads with ease while still pointing out every unexpected gem along the way. Storybook villages even in the drizzle sums up the English countryside, and Stonehenge is one of those sights that's just so impressive in person.

⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Amazing Tour Experience — Andy Was Outstanding!

My family and I had a wonderful experience with Mad Max Tours. Our tour guide, Andy, was absolutely fantastic! He was funny, entertaining, kind, and incredibly knowledgeable. He did an amazing job bringing the history and stories behind each location to life.Andy made sure we saw everything included on the tour and even surprised us with a few extra stops and details that made the experience even more special. The tour was well organized, comfortable, and enjoyable from start to finish.I was traveling with a protective walking boot, and I was worried it might limit what I could experience, but Andy’s care and the pace of the tour allowed me to enjoy every part of the day without feeling left out. This was a perfect mix of history, beautiful sights, and great storytelling. I highly recommend Mad Max Tours, and if you’re lucky enough to get Andy as your guide, you’re in for a memorable experience!

Dear Karl,

Andy taking care to make sure you didn't miss a thing really speaks to the kind of guide he is, glad the pace worked for you and the whole family. Those extra stops and details he threw in are exactly the sort of touch a small group makes possible. Thanks so much for the kind words and recommendation.

Beautiful Cotswold

What a great day! Despite the rain, our guide, Bill, made the sightseeing fun and light. He was very knowledgeable about the gorgeous Cotswold area. Thank you!

Dear Steven,

Glad Bill kept things fun and light even with the rain, that British weather doesn't always play fair. Thanks for the kind words about the Cotswolds and about him.

Exceptional Service Even When Things Don't Go to Plan

I had to cancel two tours with Mad Max Tours — the Cotswolds tour and the Cotswolds and Stonehenge tour — due to a serious medical issue that forced me to cancel my entire planned trip to the UK. John handled my cancellation with remarkable efficiency and kindness, processing refunds for both bookings promptly and without any complications, along with genuine warm wishes for my recovery. Both tours were something I was enormously looking forward to, and the gracious way in which my cancellation was handled has only made me more eager to join Mad Max Tours when I am able to return to the UK. I cannot recommend them highly enough.

Dear Steve,
Glad John made the cancellation smooth, that's exactly how we'd want it handled. We'd be delighted to have you join us whenever you're back and ready to return to the UK.
