Join this small group tour and discover the mysterious stones of Stonehenge and Avebury and experience timeless charm in the villages of Lacock and Castle Combe. This tour offers a perfect blend of history, beauty and discovery.

 

 

Leaving Bath in the morning, we journey through the rolling Wiltshire countryside to the world-famous Stonehenge. Here we’ll have time to explore this prehistoric masterpiece; walk the perimeter of the great stone circle, visit the award-winning exhibition and uncover the myths, legends and archaeology of Britain’s most iconic ancient site.

 

From one stone circle to another, we travel on to Avebury, a remarkable site where an entire village sits within the world’s largest stone circle. At Avebury we are able to wander freely among the standing stones, to touch them, and to appreciate their extraordinary scale. We'll remain in Avebury with time to have some lunch.

 

In the afternoon, we continue to Lacock, a picture-perfect National Trust village where cobbled streets, medieval cottages and traditional inns have made it a favourite filming location — from Harry Potter to Downton Abbey. Take time to stroll, take photos of filming locations and enjoy a refreshment in a local tearoom. 

 

Our final stop is the idyllic Cotswold village of Castle Combe, often called the 'prettiest village in England.' Its market cross, babbling brook and honey-coloured cottages create a scene straight from a storybook. After soaking up the idyllic Cotswolds atmosphere we return to Bath by the early evening.

The tour departs by 8.25am, but please arrive to check-in by 8.15am.

Return time to Bath is approx 5.00pm.

Preserved history in the Cotswolds and at Stonehenge

I loved my Mad Max bus tour of the Cotswolds and Stonehenge, it was like being in another place and time. Our driver used the right amount of humor to keep us all enthralled while we learned about the history and significance of the area. I would highly recommend this tour.

Sunny Stonehenge

It was a beautiful sunny perfect day to visit Stonehenge and the myriad ancient towns that we stopped at. Gorgeous scenery, prompt service, lots of ability to walk on your own and stop for a pint. Wouldn’t have changed a thing!

Really Great Day at Stonehenge and the other locations

We booked this tour specifically to see StoneHenge and it also included Avebury Henge and the Cotswold villages.

We had Bill as the tour driver and host. The day started at 8.20am.

The tour was excellent and Bill was so friendly and very knowledgable. We had to pay extra for the Stonehenge entry but this was part of the terms and conditions.

I would recommend Mad Max 100%.

The very full Day finished at 5.30.

Come for Stonehenge, stay for Avebury, Lacock, and Coombe!

We booked this tour to see Stonehenge, with any other site as a “nice but not required.” Turns out that Stonehenge was spectacular, but IMO Avebury was even better! The Lacock and Castle Coombe stops were another added bonus that I’m glad we were able to see.

Timing of stops was just right, and our guide Andy was knowledgeable and friendly.

Many thanks for letting us know how you found your tour- and I must say I agree, Avebury is my favourite stop too. Such a unique place, with an impressively large site and a relaxed atmosphere. Glad to hear you had a great time with Andy.

Amazing experience

We are visiting from the US and this was definitely one of the highlights of our trip. Richard was an amazing guide. It was a small group which made it feel more personal. Plenty of time at each spot. The buss was clean. It was a perfect experience and worth the money for sure!

Great to know you felt the tour was value for money and you enjoyed the pacing and stops of the tour. We always hope that guests enjoy the small group which as you found is a much more personal experience than the larger groups. The smaller vehicle also means we can explore places the larger vehicles cannot go. We hope you have some other highlights on your travels and lots of great memories to take home with you.

We had a wonderful tour with kevin our guide, who was very knowledgable, and who's sense of humor made this tour so much fun. Very much recommended, we would not have been able to seen places as lacock or castle combe without a tour, and they were absolutely beautiful. Stonehenge and avebury were magical and mysterious. A little bit of everything

Cannot emphasize enough, how great Kevin was on this tour. Very informative, with good commentary throughout. the tour itself was well paced, and I didn’t feel like there were any points in the tour where I felt like we were spending too much or too little at one place. The van itself is nice and is equipped with USB chargers, which was helpful for charging devices. The sites are obviously amazing, but it was the tour that really brought it to life. Thanks again to Kevin and everyone at the Mad Max team.

El tour es excelente. No le doy 5 puntos solo porque creo que la agencia que presta el servicio debería planear mejor la hora de la comida, la cual aunque no está incluida en el precio, afecta el tiempo disponible para visitar el lugar de interés en turno.
